Our much-loved Barrel Aged Coffee is ready at last.

This seasonal release has become something of a Christmas tradition for us, but this year it kept us waiting a little longer than usual. Typically, we launch around mid-November—but when we began sampling at the start of the month, it was clear the beans hadn’t yet absorbed the depth of flavour we expect from the barrel. Two weeks later the character was developing nicely, but still not quite where we wanted it. Another two weeks on and, truth be told, we were starting to wonder if we’d even make it in time for the festive season. (Barrel Aged Coffee in January doesn’t have quite the same ring to it!)

Thankfully, patience paid off. The final round of tasting delivered exactly what we’d been hoping for, and we’re delighted with the results.

This year, we changed things up by choosing a different coffee for the barrel: our Ugandan Natural, one of the newest additions to our lineup. We were hopeful that its bold, funky, fruity profile would bring something special to this year’s batch—and it absolutely has.

The finished cup is smooth yet robust, with a wonderfully persistent whiskey aroma from dry grounds to final sip. Expect notes of vanilla, oak, and—according to several of us during the tasting session—a big hit of rum and raisin. It’s a real winter warmer and one of our favourite versions yet.

A little heads-up: we’ve only produced 60 kilos, so once it’s gone… it’s gone until next year.
