Tasting notes

A beautifully balanced cup that brings together rich chocolate ganache sweetness with bright cranberry acidity and a comforting nutty finish. Smooth and rounded, with layers of ripe fruit and caramelised sweetness, this is a coffee that feels both vibrant and indulgent from first sip to last.

Origin

Coope Dota offer this womens only lot selected from their members in Santa Maria de Dota. They have just under 300 female members who came together to create their own coffee in 2023.

Cherries are delivered ripe (around 23 Brix) to the receiving station as is the norm in Costa Rica. There is a separate section to enable separation and traceability.

Coffee is then rested for 24 hours before pulping via a demucilager.

The beans are then spread out on a specific concrete patio for sun drying, and raked 7-8 times per day.

Process

After harvesting, the coffee cherries are carefully pulped and cleaned before drying, allowing the character of the bean and its origin to take centre stage. This traditional method is prized for producing coffees with exceptional clarity, consistency and a refined cup profile that reflects the unique growing conditions of Santa María de Dota.

The coffee is off beautiful quality, all full, whole beans, brilliantly roasted. They taste great as espresso, sublime as flat white or iced latte. Lovely.

After being recommend to try Stewarts coffee roast, I bought the Raisin, Chocolate, Peanut espresso beans. I had regular updates from them while my beans were being roasted, packed and dispatched, with tracking available and the whole ordering process was so easy (just like it should be). On to the beans... Lightly roasted (light brown), not dark and shiny like a lot of dark-roasted beans I've tried before... and the smell when I opened the bag was incredible! Definitely the best-smelling coffee I've had. Taste-wise, I tried my usual 2-shot Americano and was very pleased with the smooth, robust taste. You can actually taste the notes described... but I wasn't "blown away" (although it was definitely up there with the best). Then I tried a quad-espresso. Espresso is what these beans are roasted for. A literal taste explosion, not bitter at all, but a delicious, nutty flavour with an overtone of peanut and chocolate and a back note of raisins. A beautiful hit of coffee on the palate. You've got yourself a subscriber.
